Rose’s background is as a Nurse Psychotherapist working with cancer patients and their families. She became interested in bereavement issues and became a Cruse Bereavement Counsellor.
After the death of her daughter Avril, aged 22 years, she became involved with The Compassionate Friends (TCF) running a group for bereaved parents for about ten years. Rose’s 12 week old grandson died about six years after Avril and the combination of these two deaths plus her many years experience working with bereaved people, led her to leave the Health Service and join SAMM.
Rose has been with SAMM since 1999. As well as being the CEO and managing the charity with the help of the trustees, she also organises all the training days for SAMM volunteers. An important part of her role is helping train Family Liaison Officers, Health & Safety Executives Inspectors, The Crown Prosecution Service, Coroners Office and many other Agencies.
Rose has served on many national committees over the years including three years on the Victims Advisory Panel (VAP). This committee advises the Prime Minister, Home Secretary and other senior ministers on issues directly relating to victims issues. She was also on the working party looking at the Victim Advocate Scheme.
Rose has delivered presentations to the Home Office, Foreign & Commonwealth Office, Emergency Planning Conferences and many other organisations.
