Introduction

SAMM is a national UK Charity supporting families bereaved by Murder and Manslaughter.
We also provide advice and training to many agencies on issues relevant to the traumatically bereaved.

Details for agencies here

If you have been bereaved by murder or manslaughter you may find it difficult to make the first call, regardless of how long it is since you were bereaved.
Perhaps you can ask a family member, a friend, or your Police family liaison officer to make the call on your behalf.

We can then contact you at your convenience. You may want support via our helpline, access to our secure on-line forum, or we can refer you to a local contact if there is one in your area. Perhaps you prefer a home visit by our trained volunteers or a staff member. Whichever service suits you, SAMM staff and volunteers will do their best to provide it for you.

You may be experiencing difficulties with regard to the authorities. SAMM staff are very well informed with regard to the agencies you may be dealing with, SAMM may be able to assist you with any problem and make contact on your behalf.

Please – do not feel you are alone. You will talk to people who will care for you, and understand your grief, all our SAMM volunteers are themselves bereaved as a result of homicide

About us

Marie Ellis : Chair of SAMM

On the 31st March 2009 SAMM National became an independent organisation, the service level agreement we have held with Victim Support ceased from that date. The decision not to renew the service level agreement with V.S. was a mutual decision between SAMM and V.S. The SAMM National Office relocated to Birmingham and is housed at Tally Ho! Police Training Centre.  We will be working in close partnership with West Midlands Police. This will not alter the fact that we are A NATIONAL ORGANISATION and we will continue to be a NATIONAL ORGANISATION.
