Support After Murder & Manslaughter

SAMM is a national UK Charity (No 1000598) supporting families bereaved by Murder and Manslaughter. We also provide advice and training to many agencies on issues relevant to the traumatically bereaved.

If you have been bereaved by murder or manslaughter you may find it difficult to make the first call, regardless of how long it is since you were bereaved. Perhaps you can ask a family member, a friend, or your Police family liaison officer to make the call on your behalf.

Support After Murder And Manslaughter SAMM have no membership fee; we are supported by charitable trusts, individuals, business and industrial donations and by members fundraising activities. Please note our database of members is absolutely confidential and will not be revealed to anyone.

Please – do not feel you are alone. You will talk to people who will care for you, and understand your grief, all our SAMM volunteers are themselves bereaved as a result of homicide.

Support For the bereaved

After this type of bereavement you can feel lonely, frightened and isolated and truly feeling as if no one understands your pain and grief but everyone within SAMM knows how that trauma and pain can affect you. All our specially trained volunteers have been bereaved in this way. Talking confidentially to someone who does understand can be so helpful and make you realise that you are not alone with your pain and distress.

Support for professionals

SAMM provides training for people who come into contact with those bereaved through homicide. We currently offer this training to Police Officers, Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) Barristers, Probation Officers, Schools and many other organisations.
